BIO
Painter • Muralist • Musician • Nonprofit Founder
Bradford Johnson is a Des Moines-based visual artist who specializes in custom paintings and large-scale murals that tell stories of restoration, resilience, and hope. With a style rooted in soulful expression and bold composition, Bradford’s work brings life to walls, rooms, and communities—whether through deeply personal commissioned pieces or towering public art installations.
A full-time musician for over two decades, Bradford’s creative instincts have been shaped by the same raw energy and emotional depth that fuel his performances on stages across the Midwest. His dual life as an artist and musician reflects his belief that creativity is both a calling and a form of connection.
Following a struggle with substance abuse for almost 20 years, Bradford found freedom and has been sober since 2020. He has a deep passion for helping others find freedom from addiction. Beyond the canvas and stage, Bradford helps run Change Course, a nonprofit offering career and personal development for individuals overcoming incarceration, addiction, and generational poverty. His work—whether in paint, song, or service—is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves a second chance and a place to belong.
Bradford says:
"Art is the only way I can fully express how beautiful I believe humans and community truly are. Life is about understanding that even though we all come from and exist in different places, with unique passions and beliefs and lifestyles, cultures and colors, we're all still human beings with a deep desire for acceptance and need for each other. I fall in love with humanity every hour I spend creating art in public spaces, and I hope my work helps others move that direction too."
Bradford lives in Des Moines, Iowa with his wife and daughter.
